Sculptra…just another filler?

September 24th, 2010

What is it?

Many of our patients want a younger looking appearance without having to have surgery. Sculptra Aesthetic is an anti-aging option that can give you subtle, noticeable results without giving you away. Different from dermal fillers, Sculptra is made up of microscopic crystals of poly-L-lactic acid. What the heck is that? Simply put, poly-L-lactic acid is a biocompatible (material that does not harm the body), biodegradable (body will break it down) teeny tiny, you need a super microscope to see it, suture like material.

Breaking it down

What you need to know is that Sculptra is NOT a filler. It is a volumizer. Those dissolvable microscopic materials in the product will stimulate your body to create its own natural collagen. So you are building up YOUR OWN collagen again to fill in those depressed area that happens with naturally the aging process.

How long does it last?

Of course, individual results will vary. It can last years, some 2 years others 5 years. Usually after a couple of years you will need a touch up treatment. For the first couple of days, you will be swollen, and then you will look like you didn’t have anything done. Absolutely no change…you still look the same as when you came in the office before your injections. Be patient! That’s the difference with Sculptra. Remember your are forming your own collagen again, that doesn’t happen over night. Lasting results appear over a 3-4 month period.
